We Almost Made It is an account of two young Black men growing up in the slums of Baltimore City, Maryland, and how they survived poverty, violence, and adversity through the art of karate. Author Sylvester Cash portrays his decades-long friendship with Leroy “Superfeet” Taylor, whom he met at a local recreation center.
